Benjamin Moore vs. Sherwin-Williams: Which Paint Is Better?

Neither Benjamin Moore nor Sherwin-Williams is automatically the better choice for every project. Compare the specific paint, surface, finish and application requirements. A cabinet coating and an everyday wall paint solve different problems, even when they come from the same brand.

Colour Land is an independent Benjamin Moore retailer in Burlington. This guide explains how we would approach the choice; it is not an independent laboratory comparison or a claim that every Benjamin Moore product outperforms every Sherwin-Williams product.

Start with the project, then compare the paint

Interior walls

For a bedroom or living room, consider appearance, washability, surface condition and budget. For a hallway or family room, give more weight to cleaning and scuff resistance. At Colour Land, we can help you compare ben, Regal Select, AURA and SCUFF-X for the room you are painting.

If you have a Sherwin-Williams quote, bring the exact product name and finish. For example, Emerald Interior is a specific interior wall-paint line; “Sherwin-Williams paint” alone is not enough information for a useful comparison. Product names across brands are not a guarantee of equivalent performance.

Cabinets, doors and trim

For cabinets, focus on suitability for the existing coating, preparation, levelling, application method and the time available for recoating and curing. Benjamin Moore ADVANCE is an option we discuss for these projects. Compare it with a product intended for the same use, rather than comparing it with ordinary wall paint.

Read our kitchen cabinet paint guide before planning your supplies.

Which brand gives better value?

Compare the full project estimate: the exact paint and sheen, container size, quantity, primer and preparation supplies. Ask each retailer what the quote includes and whether a promotion has an expiry date. A lower price per can does not establish a lower total project cost.

We do not publish a fixed price comparison with Sherwin-Williams because local offers, product choices and package sizes can differ. Bring a current written quote and your room measurements so we can explain the Benjamin Moore options for your project.

Can you use the same colour in either brand?

If you want a particular Benjamin Moore colour, specify its name and number along with the Benjamin Moore product and sheen. Colour Land tints Benjamin Moore colours using the appropriate Benjamin Moore formulas. Treat a cross-brand colour match as a match to evaluate with a real sample, not as proof that two paints will look identical.

Our GRAIMONDI Colour Collection is a Colour Land colour collection, not a replacement name for Benjamin Moore paint. Ask us to confirm the selected colour, paint product and sheen together. You can also choose an original Benjamin Moore colour.

Why choose Colour Land for Benjamin Moore?

Our role is to help you choose the colour and coating together. Bring flooring, fabric, countertop samples or room photos so we can discuss undertones, lighting and finish alongside the practical requirements of the surface.
